Last month I quoted a number of Derg sources on the EPRP, and noted a US Embassy cable describing an anti-EPRP demonstration in 1976 with picket signs accusing the EPRP of CIA connections. I ran across video footage from that demonstration: The pictures above are screen shots from very low resolution video, so apologies for the quality. Both pictures show English-language signs distorting the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Party (EPRP). The top one shows a sign reading, “Down With Ethiopian Princes Restoration Party.” The second, riffing off the name of the clandestine EPRP newspaper Democracia, reads “Death to DemocraCIA.” These are, of course, shop-worn slanders, rationales for dehumanizing EPRP members who were soon to be rounded up, imprisoned, tortured and killed, in their thousands.
